While it is perfectly acceptable to attend iFIX Advanced training prior to attending the iFIX Fundamentals course. This will allow the student to take these features into consideration when designing, implementing, and troubleshooting advanced iFIX systems. of data grids into graphics without configuring complex SQL queries. The open-architecture characteristics of the product (included in topics like OPC, ODBC, OLE Automation and ActiveX) are explored. iFIX 5.0 forms a powerful combination with GE Fanucs Proficy Historian, said Pai. The course is intended to provide a base level of proficiency in the use of some of the product’s more advanced features. This course is designed primarily for students wanting to create advanced, highly customized, SCADA/HMI systems using iFIX. I don’t know much about Ignition or VTScada, but I consider them more contemporary than iFix.Įdit: I can’t describe how much I hate InTouch.8:30 AM to 4:30 PM (3 days) 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM (Day 4) And the tag groups compare to SE’s parameter files, of which InTouch doesn’t really have an equivalent.įor context, I’ve extensively done ViewSE (&32), IFix, and InTouch/System Platform, with some one-offs with Cimplicity and Indusoft and some others. And the way you could back-end script things to dynamically populate things. In retrospect, I really liked that you could drag and drop objects in the tree to group/ungroup them. But it got sold a few times and stagnated. It wanted to touch the DCS world with built-in PID functions and stuff. The alarm distribution to clients just works. It would run as a system service back when InTouch had to be logged in to run. They aren’t innovators, so as the competitors improve, it falls further behind. These days it’s mostly getting ripped out and replaced. The replica servers are maintained as faithful, synchronized replicas of the original servers on the industrial. Business users and applications use to the replica servers exclusively.
They’re leveraged heavily in water/wastewater so I’ve touched hundreds of installations and have since Fix32 (late ‘90s). The Waterfall gateway software queries GE Proficy iFIX servers on an industrial a business network, and uses the data to populate a replica iFIX server there. I use Rockwell most of the time these days and I would not say they have modern HMI software. Its difficult to dump on software you have based a career around so I try not to get too attached to any platform as it might be gone next year. This is a very complex subject with much history (I'm 30 year veteran and IFix is almost 25 yo now) and I am sure IFIX fanboys will not agree. Its very popular with Amazon fulfillment centers.
I would call Ignition a new school program as it uses more modern technology standards than the old school versions.
Not popular everywhere yet but manufactures see the writing on the wall.
AVEVA Systems Platform/OMI is probably the most powerful but hardest to learn, Ignition 8 by Inductive Automation is one of the most approachable and has great full feature demo and free online training. Schneider appears to have most of the HMI's I would avoid from a professional and career standpoint. Only a few relevant platforms will be around 10 years from now.
The small user base doesn't push the vendors to modernize the code over time.
The following subsections detail how to configure SCADA servers using the SCADA Configuration dialog box. To establish and configure a SCADA server, click the SCADA button on the SCU toolbox. Hardware Requirements - iFIX SCADA Server 41 Hardware Requirements - iFIX. Most HMI's that have been around for decades have very old code and can be difficult to run on modern OS's. SCADA servers monitor process values and communicate with process hardware. Table of Contents Important Product Information for iFIX 6.5 1 Whats New in. It's one of the old school dying platforms like many now owned by Schneider or AVEVA.
